Maple Ridge Development Cost Charges

July 31, 2017

On July 11th, Maple Ridge staff brought forward a report to Council with proposed changes to municipality’s DCC By-law.

Maple Ridge is also seeking to overhaul and increase its DCCs. Maple Ridge currently has DCCs for infill and “current growth” for various types of development. Staff are proposing that they be combined, so there will be one rate for each type of development.  The proposed rate increases are substantial – especially for infill townhouses and infill commercial projects. Infill townhouse DCCs will increase from $68.07 per m2 to $134.21 per m2 (the combined townhouse rate). For commercial infill projects, the increases go from $26.44 to $45.35 per m2 (combined commercial DCC rate). Staff indicated that they would like the new rates to come into effect in November/December of this year, but this could change depending on the consultation process.

UDI has noted to staff that the industry will likely have several concerns and questions with the changes. Two meetings regarding the DCCs are being organized in September – the Liaison Committee meeting and a Builders’ Forum.
